Description
Attached to this notification there is a document that contains brief information regarding West Nile Virus and Jamestown Canyon Virus activity in York County.
Starting next week, we will be conducting trapping using our BG sentinel Trap (Figure 3 in word doc) These traps are meant to attract mosquitoes that are actively seeking a blood meal.
As we all try and enjoy the longer days and warmer weather, I have had a few people ask me about the proper application of sunscreen and bug sprays. As a reminder:
Apply sunscreen 1st then apply bug spray. Ideally it would be best to let the sunscreen absorb into the skin (~10 minutes) then apply the bug spray.
Additionally, we are always looking for opportunities to educate, so if you would like us to table an event, conduct a talk, etc., please feel free to contact me via email
· Stay indoors during peak mosquito hours
o Dusk to Dawn (Keep in mind that it is getting darker earlier)
· Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toed shoes if possible
o Exposed skin may be at risk for biting mosquitoes
· Wear bug spray
o Specifically bug spray containing at least 30% DEET or another EPA approved active ingredient
· Remove all the standing water from your property
o Birdbaths, wheelbarrows, and children’s toys can hold water and breed mosquitoes.
Thank you,
