Important Notification - Krum Public Library Cybersecurity Event
The Krum Public Library (“Krum Library”) announces that it experienced a cybersecurity event on May 14, 2026, and can now confirm that it was the victim of a sophisticated ransomware attack carried out by cybercriminal threat actors.
Upon detection of unusual activity on its computer network on May 14, 2026, Krum Library immediately began an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts to quickly resecure its network and assess the scope of impact. Due to previous investments in backup technology and the assistance of the City’s IT team and managed services provider, Krum Library did not experience permanent loss of any critical data as a result of this incident. Krum Library can also confirm that their network has been secured and there has been no further unauthorized access.
This attack was limited to the Krum Library environment and did not impact the City’s broader network or any other City operations or services.
While this forensic investigation remains ongoing, it has confirmed that certain files on Krum Library’s network were accessed without authorization. Krum Library has begun a comprehensive review of the files that were potentially accessed without authorization in this matter, and, while that review is ongoing, Krum Library can confirm that no Social Security numbers were impacted in this attack. Krum Library can also confirm that no financial account information belonging to any individual (including employees and library patrons) was impacted. Should Krum Library determine that any sensitive personal information was accessed without authorization in this attack, Krum Library will make every effort to notify potentially impacted individuals.
