Description
Each spring, summer, and fall season Adams County Conservation District works closely with the DEP monitoring tick and mosquito populations to measure and control disease spread. They have provided 2 resources to provide tips to home and property owners to protect themselves from these pests.
Some quick reminders:
1.) When spending time outside ensure to wear EPA approved repellent containing DEET or picaridin
2.) Wear protective clothing such as long pants and sleeves to protect exposed skin, light colored clothing to easily spot ticks, and tuck in shirts & pants while outside
3.) Eliminate tick and mosquito habitat around the property by:
a. Treating stagnant water with Mosquito Dunks
b. Dumping buckets, wheel barrels, containers, or anything that can hold stagnant water (even the smallest plastic water bottle lid can hold enough water to breed mosquitos)
c. Properly discarding old unused tires
d. Regularly mowing lawns
e. Keeping up with woodpiles by keeping them dry and away from homes & people
