Description
Dear Residents of the Borough of Steelton,

As the 2025–2026 school year comes to a close, the Steelton Borough Police Department would like to congratulate all students, parents, teachers, and school staff on the successful completion of another academic year. We hope that everyone enjoys a safe, productive, and enjoyable summer season.

With the arrival of summer break, there is traditionally an increase in outdoor activity throughout the Borough during the evening and nighttime hours. While we encourage our youth to enjoy their summer responsibly, we would also like to remind residents that the Borough’s Curfew and Loitering Ordinances remain in effect and will continue to be enforced.

The Borough’s Curfew Ordinance prohibits minors under the age of 18 from being on public streets during designated nighttime hours unless they fall within one of the lawful exceptions established by ordinance. Curfew hours are as follows:

- Minors age 15 and under: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Minors age 16 and 17: 11:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Additionally, the Borough’s Loitering Ordinance prohibits individuals from congregating or remaining in public places in a manner that creates disturbances, obstructs pedestrian or vehicle traffic, causes annoyance to others, or contributes to breaches of the peace.

These ordinances are designed to:

- Promote public safety
- Reduce juvenile criminal activity
- Encourage parental responsibility
- Preserve the quality of life for all residents

Residents should expect an increased police presence throughout the Borough during the summer months, including proactive patrols and enforcement efforts focused on curfew violations, disorderly gatherings, nuisance activity, and quality-of-life concerns.

We respectfully ask parents and guardians to remain mindful of the whereabouts of their children during nighttime hours and to partner with the Police Department in maintaining a safe and peaceful community environment.

The Steelton Borough Police Department appreciates the continued support and cooperation of our community as we work together to ensure a safe summer for all.

Respectfully,

Chief Shawki Lacey
