Description
The Fire Hydrant has been Repaired and Water Service has been Restored.
A Boil Water Advisory is now in Effect for the Town of Yankeetown
A fire hydrant break caused a water leak and temporary loss of water service to customers in the Town of Yankeetown. The repair has now been completed and water service has been restored. As a precaution, a boil water advisory remains in effect until water quality testing confirms the water is safe for normal use.
What Residents Need to Know
A boil water advisory is a public health precaution issued when there is a possibility that the local water supply may have been contaminated by bacteria or other harmful microorganisms. Even though the damaged fire hydrant has been repaired and water service has been restored, residents should continue to boil tap water before certain uses until the advisory is lifted.
What Does the Advisory Mean?
Until further notice, residents should boil all tap water before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing food, or preparing baby formula. Boiling water helps kill bacteria and other microorganisms that may be present.
What Should Residents Do?
• Bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making baby formula, or brushing teeth.
• Let the boiled water cool before using it or storing it in clean, covered containers.
• Use boiled or bottled water for food preparation and for washing fruits and vegetables.
• Tap water may generally be used for bathing and showering, but avoid swallowing the water.
How Long Will the Advisory Last?
The boil water advisory will remain in effect until required water quality tests confirm that the water is safe to use without boiling. Updates will be provided by the Town of Yankeetown as soon as additional information becomes available.
