Delaware County Council and the County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA) will lead the celebration of Older Americans Month with the Celebrate Age Expo.
The Expo is Friday, May 1 at Harrah’s Casino and Racetrack, 777 Harrah’s Blvd., Chester, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Senior Expo is a free, one-stop hub of information about aging-related services and an opportunity to meet dozens of local organizations, nonprofits and providers in one place. This year’s theme, “Champion Your Health,” focuses on prevention, wellness, personal responsibility, and self-management as cornerstones of healthy aging. The initiative encourages older adults to take an active role in managing their own health by advocating for themselves, accessing preventive care, and making informed decisions that support independence. The COSA Health and Wellness table will be among the exhibitors at this year’s Expo. Seniors are encouraged to stop by to learn about the evidence-based health, wellness, and self-management programs available to individuals age 60 years and older. COSA can bring these programs directly to any local community organization, social group, or place of worship, by providing in-person or online programming. COSA advises older adults to take charge of their health in the following ways: Stay up to date on preventive care and screenings. build and maintain social connections that support emotional well-being. choose nutritious, minimally processed foods. incorporate regular physical activity to maintain strength and mobility. and practice daily habits that support our mental health and resilience.
