City of Bruceville-Eddy
Residents are advised to remain vigilant regarding a fraudulent text message scam currently circulating in our area from phone number (283) 224-3479.
đź“„ What the scam looks like:
The message includes an official-looking document claiming to be from a Texas municipal court, titled “Notice of Default — Enforcement Action Initiated.” It alleges unpaid toll or parking violations and threatens legal consequences such as fines, license suspension, or court action.
⚠️ Red Flags to Watch For:
Requests for immediate payment to avoid penalties
Use of threatening or urgent language
Inclusion of a QR code to “settle unpaid balance”
Messages sent from unknown or suspicious phone numbers
Claims of court action without prior official notice by mail

Legitimate courts and government agencies do NOT request payments via text message or QR codes, nor do they initiate legal enforcement in this manner.

Do NOT click any links or scan QR codes
Do NOT provide personal or financial information
Do NOT send payment
Delete the message immediately

Contact your local law enforcement agency
Report the message to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at reportfraud.ftc.gov
You may also forward suspicious texts to 7726 (SPAM) to help your carrier investigate
