Starting on Monday 4/6 and Tuesday 4/7we will be using a different style truck to collect recycle on one of the routes. This truck is specifically designed to pick up carts ONLY! This new style of truck picks up the cart and lifts it all the way to the top of the truck where it dumps the contents once it reaches the top. If a customer has a bin or is using their personal container, the fingers of the truck will not be able to either pick it up or if it is able to it may accidentally drop it in the hopper where it will not be able to be retrieved. Also, if customers are leaving any loose recycle in a small bag, we will be unable to pick it up as our driver will then have to try to throw it up over into the truck. This obviously puts our driver at risk of injuring himself not to mention it’s a pretty good toss to get it up over. I have asked my driver to call in any customers that need carts so that we are able to provide them service. Customers MUST have a cart in order to get serviced. This is the style of truck that Republic is going to be using in the future. It is a much safer truck not only mechanically but also for the driver as it eliminates the possibility of the driver having to pick up any loose trash or recycle therefore reducing the risk of injuring themselves and/or cutting or getting poked by nails, needles and so forth. In the case that our driver is unable to service a customer due to not having the proper cart I have asked him to call the address out to his teammate and have him swing by and get them. This will only be done for a few weeks as we work on getting carts to those that need them. Any customer not willing to use our carts will not be able to be serviced.
