West Monument Avenue Bridge Update

In recent months, the Borough has been receiving comments, questions, and concerns from residents along West Monument Avenue and surrounding streets. The Borough is actively working to address issues as they are reported by residents in the area.

The following actions have been taken:
1. The police have been and continue to perform targeted enforcement on West Monument Avenue and surrounding streets. The stats on traffic stops, the number of directed patrols, and other related information have been shared on the Borough social media page, police department social media page, Crime Watch and Savvy Citizen. We do want to remind everyone if you observe a violation or have information on possible violators to please call 9-1-1.

2. Additional signage has been installed in the area. The Borough has changed messaging on the sign board near the park to remind motorists to obey all traffic laws and to be mindful of pedestrian safety. We want to remind everyone that motor vehicles must adhere to all traffic regulations regardless of if they are traveling on West Monument Avenue, surrounding streets or anywhere in the Borough. As noted above, anyone observing a traffic violation should call 9-1-1.

3. A traffic count was conducted in the area. The Borough Engineer is reviewing the data from the count to see if the weight limit on the bridge should remain the same or can be changed. The traffic counts were shared on various social media platforms noted above.

4. Borough staff has been sharing traffic safety tips every Thursday to help motorists obey all regulations.

5. Council has scheduled a Town Hall for April 1st at 6PM in Borough Hall to discuss the future of the grant funding secured to replace the West Monument Avenue Bridge. All residents are welcome to attend this town hall.

6. Borough Council continues to keep this matter on all Council agendas and encourages resident to attend meetings.
