Description
π¨ SNOW REMOVAL UPDATE β WHAT TO EXPECT IN RED LION BOROUGH βοΈ
Hereβs how our Public Works team keeps roads safe during winter storms π
π§ Pretreatment
Once snow starts falling, crews apply an antiskid & salt mix to keep snow/ice from bonding to roads.
β± Time: 2β3 hours
π Snow Plowing
Plowing begins after 3β4 inches of snow.
Crews need about 8 hours to open all Borough streets.
π§ Aftertreatment
Once plowing is complete, another round of antiskid & salt is applied.
β± Time: 2β3 hours
β‘οΈ Where Does the Snow Go?
Plows push snow to the right, toward the curb. It builds up: β’ under parked cars
β’ between cars
β’ in open curb areas
Works well up to about 6 inches of snow.
But when totals hit 8+ inches, space runs out and snow can: β’ push behind the plow
β’ pack under tires
β’ create hardto-remove snowpack
π The Biggest Obstacle? Parked Cars.
They stop plows from clearing to the curbβwhich is essential for:
π Emergency vehicle access
β‘οΈ Traffic flow
π
ΏοΈ Parking
π Trash pickup
π§ Storm drain clearing
π₯ Fire hydrant access
π Thank you for helping us keep Red Lion safe during winter weather!
Move vehicles when possible. There is off street parking at Nitchkey Park, Fairmount Park, and the Municipal Office at 438 E. Lancaster Street. Give crews room to work and stay safe out there! βοΈπ
