⚠️ The snowstorm that keeps on giving... ice and damage edition.
As temps rise during the day and drop at night, icy hazards are popping up all over the Borough — and your downspout may be part of the problem. 🧊
Many Crafton homes have downspouts that drain above ground onto streets and sidewalks. When that meltwater refreezes overnight, it creates serious slip-and-fall hazards for our neighbors out walking.
🏘️ Heads up, property owners: You are legally responsible for keeping your sidewalk safe — and liable if anyone is injured on it.
Here's what you can do right now 👇
✅ Apply ice melt to the area daily
✅ Break up existing ice with an ice breaker
✅ Redirect water away from the sidewalk until warmer weather arrives
✅ For a permanent fix — tie your downspout into the sewer (this is what Borough ordinance requires!)

🏠 And while you're out there assessing things... take a look up. The recent storm may have done a number on your roof, box gutters, soffit, or fascia — or caused interior water damage. You may have a homeowner's insurance claim, so don't wait to act!
📸 Document damage immediately with time-stamped photos & video
🗂️ Keep damaged materials — don't toss anything
🧾 Save every receipt for emergency supplies or repairs
📞 File your claim promptly — get your claim number and adjuster contact
📓 Keep a log of every call, email, and conversation with dates and names
🔧 Hold off on major repairs until after the adjuster inspects — unless it's an emergency
📄 Know your policy: understand the difference between Actual Cash Value and Replacement Cost — and don't accept a settlement that undervalues your loss
💼 If needed, consider hiring a public adjuster to advocate on your behalf
