YORK & HORSHAM ROADS TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPDATE

Description
Both the Borough and the Hatboro Police Department have received a number of calls and inquiries regarding the traffic light at York & Horsham.
We want to let you know that the traffic light is working correctly and to the PennDOT permit specifications.
Both our Public Works staff and Police Officers have responded and are reporting all is good.
There are a few factors creating a backup at the intersection and the appearance to many that the light is short cycling. First is the increased traffic on Horsham Road due to the West Moreland Avenue Bridge closure. Motorists are following the posted detour, thank you.
The second issue is the snow. If you have traveled north on York Road there are areas where traffic is limited to one lane, which is creating a backup on York which is now creating an issue where only a few cars on Horsham Road can pass through the intersection when the light is green. This appears to only be an issue for the afternoon commute.
When traffic is lighter the light is allowing the permitted number of cars to go North on York Road.
The Borough will work to see if we can remove some snow and free up right turn lanes especially at York & Byberry. Any work we do in this intersection may result in delays to motorists while our staff works to clear the ice.
Also, just a reminder, if you come upon an intersection where traffic lights are not working, please call 911. A police officer will be dispatched and if there is an issue found, our Public Works staff will be contacted. It is an acceptable practice to call 911 for these types of matters. While we want to help, calling Borough Hall after hours will only mean your calls will not be addressed until staff returns the next business day.
If you have any questions, you can reach out to Borough Hall at 215-443-9100 or email at info@myhatboro.org. This notification is simply to convey information that we have heard from many and we have investigated the issue, and we will now try and mitigate it to make it easier to drive through Hatboro.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as you navigate traffic through the Borough.
