Cheswick Borough Snow Update
January 26, 2026 – 12:00 PM
With this near record snowfall over a 24 hour period, Cheswick Borough’s two man Public Works crew has been activated since 2:00 AM Sunday morning, fighting what is essentially a losing battle during the height of the storm. During major snow events, our top priorities are hills and intersections. Side streets will be plowed as soon as conditions allow.
When this much snow falls, it is nearly impossible to keep streets perfectly clear. Snow will accumulate around cars and driveways. Although we do our best to minimize snow piles, some buildup is unfortunately unavoidable. You may also notice large mounds of snow in certain areas—our crews are running out of places to put it, and we cannot block fire hydrants, storm sewers, sidewalks, or utilities.
Over the next several days, we will begin the cleanup process. We will work to plow curb to curb where possible and remove large piles created by the plows. With extreme cold expected this week and the possibility of additional accumulation, we ask for your continued patience. As many of you have heard, there is a major salt shortage across the region. We have requested emergency supplies multiple times and hope to receive additional salt this week.
How You Can Help
• If possible, please keep cars off the street.
• Do not shovel snow back onto the roadway.
• Clear snow from around fire hydrants.
• Clear snow from storm drains to help prevent melting snow from refreezing on the streets.
• Use extreme caution on hills and at intersections—roads may remain slick for several days.
• Check on neighbors and lend a hand when you can.
We understand how inconvenient and difficult the aftermath of a storm of this magnitude can be. We appreciate your patience and want to remind everyone that our Public Works crew is doing the very best they can under challenging conditions.
