Description
Due to the impending snowstorm forecast from Saturday through Monday, it is essential that everyone works together to minimize impacts and ensure public safety. Residents are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. Vehicles on the roadway—especially those that become stuck—significantly hinder snow removal operations.

Please ensure that all streets and alleys are clear of obstructions, including trash totes, basketball hoops, and any other items located within the 16‑foot public right-of-way. Yes, the right-of-way is 16 feet. Our plow trucks require a minimum of 10 feet of clear space to pass through safely. If vehicles or other items block access, those streets or alleys will not be plowed until access is restored.

Residents are also reminded not to blow or push snow into the street. Snow placed in the roadway quickly compacts into ice, making it extremely difficult—and sometimes impossible—to remove.
If you have multiple vehicles and parking may restrict plow access, alternate parking is available:

-The double parking lot behind the new Borough Office, located at 438 E. Lancaster Street
-Fairmount Park, which may also be utilized for overflow parking

Please remember that snowplows are not the only vehicles that need access. Fire and emergency vehicles require a minimum of 14 feet of clearance. Emergencies occur regardless of weather conditions, and maintaining access is critical.

Our Public Works crew worked last weekend and is preparing to work throughout this storm as well. They put in long hours to keep roads passable for emergency vehicles during the storm and then continue cleanup efforts after it ends. Crews must take required rest periods, so please do not assume that no work is being done if trucks are not immediately visible.

If you have questions or non-emergency needs, please contact the Borough office at 717‑850‑0790. Borough staff will be monitoring phone calls and messages.

For emergencies, please call 911 or contact the Pennsylvania State Police directly.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work together to keep the community safe.
