As many of you may have seen in the news, our region is currently experiencing a salt shortage. While West Homestead does have salt available, we are taking a proactive and responsible approach as we prepare for light snow this evening and a potential larger storm this weekend.
To keep everyone safe, crews will prioritize salting intersections and hills. On flatter roads, we will conserve salt due to ongoing supply concerns. Much of our salt is delivered into Pennsylvania through out-of-state distribution routes, and it’s unclear how the upcoming storm may impact resupply timelines.
Many neighboring communities are already on waitlists for salt, so conservation now helps ensure we can continue to respond as needed.
We ask all residents to please drive cautiously:
• Slow down and allow extra stopping distance
• Come to a complete stop at intersections
• Be alert for slick spots, especially on hills
