Description
Snow Squall Warning issued January 19 at 1:17PM EST until January 19 at 1:45PM EST by NWS Pittsburgh PA
At 117 PM EST, a dangerous snow squall was located along a line from
near Delmont to near Fredericktown-Millsboro, or along a line from 8
miles south of Apollo to 13 miles east of Waynesburg, moving east at
35 mph.
HAZARD...Intense bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds leading to
blowing snow and rapidly falling visibility. Wind gusts
greater than 35 mph.
SOURCE...Doppler radar and webcams.
IMPACT...Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous
within minutes.
Locations impacted include...
Greensburg, Uniontown, Jeannette, Latrobe, Connellsville,
Waynesburg, Murrysville, Monessen, California, Donora, Mount
Pleasant, Scottdale, Charleroi, Irwin, McChesneytown-Loyalhanna,
Blairsville, Manor, Youngwood, Derry and Delmont.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 70 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 37 and 57.
Interstate 79 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 14 and 18.
Pennsylvania Turnpike between mile markers 62 and 86.
Slow Down! Rapid changes in visibility and road conditions are
expected with this dangerous snow squall. Be alert for sudden
whiteout conditions.
There is no safe place on a highway when a snow squall hits.
Visibility and traction are immediately lost in whiteout conditions,
making it difficult or impossible to slow down and avoid stopped
vehicles. Delay travel or safely exit the highway before the snow
squall arrives.
