Description
Snow Squall Warning issued January 19 at 12:31PM EST until January 19 at 12:45PM EST by NWS Pittsburgh PA
At 1231 PM EST, a dangerous snow squall was located along a line from
near Homer City to near West Newton, or along a line from near Homer
City to 9 miles southwest of Jeannette, moving east at 35 mph.
HAZARD...Intense bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds leading to
blowing snow and rapidly falling visibility. Wind gusts
greater than 35 mph.
SOURCE...Doppler radar and webcams.
IMPACT...Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous
within minutes.
Locations impacted include...
Greensburg, Jeannette, Murrysville, Manor, Youngwood, Delmont, New
Stanton, Calumet-Norvelt, Avonmore, Export, Saltsburg, New
Alexandria, Penn, Arona, Hunker, Adamsburg, Crabtree, Slickville,
Grapeville and Harrison City.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 70 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 55 and 57.
Pennsylvania Turnpike between mile markers 72 and 80.
Slow Down! Rapid changes in visibility and road conditions are
expected with this dangerous snow squall. Be alert for sudden
whiteout conditions.
There is no safe place on a highway when a snow squall hits.
Visibility and traction are immediately lost in whiteout conditions,
making it difficult or impossible to slow down and avoid stopped
vehicles. Delay travel or safely exit the highway before the snow
squall arrives.
