VOLUSIA COUNTY, FLORIDA — Volusia County is making it easier for residents to safely dispose of household hazardous waste with two free collection events later this month.
Friday, Oct. 24 | 8 a.m. – Noon
Ormond Beach Public Works Facility
501 N. Orchard St.
Saturday, Oct. 25 | 8 a.m. – Noon
New Smyrna Beach Public Works Facility
124 Industrial Park Ave.
Proper disposal of hazardous materials helps protect the environment and public health. Residents can drop off items such as:
Old paint and solvents
Household and automobile batteries
Pool chemicals and pesticides
Motor oil, gasoline, and other household chemicals
Up to 10 fluorescent lamps
Insulin needles will be accepted if placed in approved containers, which will not be returned. Only unmixed household hazardous waste will be accepted. Businesses are not eligible for free disposal.
To ensure safety and efficiency:
Traffic will move in one direction
Residents must remain in their vehicles
Proof of Volusia County residency is required (e.g., driver’s license)
Year-Round Disposal Options
Residents who cannot attend the events can dispose of hazardous waste at no charge at the following locations:
Tomoka Landfill
1990 Tomoka Farms Road, Port Orange
Open Mon–Sat, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
West Volusia Transfer Station
3151 E. New York Ave., DeLand
Open Mon–Fri, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sat, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Both facilities also offer free paint exchange programs and electronic waste recycling.
