Description
YORK, Pa. – The York County Mosquito and Tick-Borne Disease Control Program announced today it will conduct a mosquito-control spray operation in residential and recreational areas of Manchester Township and West Manchester Township on Thursday, August 28th.
The county will spray for adult mosquitoes from a truck, beginning around sunset, in the following areas:
Dover Township: Grandview Ave, Prospect Ave, Anita Dr, Oakland Rd, Mayfield Dr, Willapa Dr, Jessica Rd, Ashley Ln, Jodi Ln, Wheatland Dr, Rainbow Rd
West Manchester Township: Sunset Ln, Audlyn Dr, Derry Rd, Thelon Dr, Lycan Dr, Westminster Dr, Brookmar Dr, Sparrow Dr, Goldens Path, Ridings Way, Olde Field Dr, Deer Ford Way, Chruch Rd, Manor Rd, Cedar Rd
These areas have been targeted for spraying due to high counts of mosquitoes capable of transmitting West Nile Virus. Residents on the targeted roads, as well as nearby roads, should be aware that spraying is planned for those areas.
Should the weather or other unexpected events occur to prevent or delay the start of the spray, the operation will be rescheduled for September 2nd.
The Pa. Department of Environmental Protection will be onsite for the operation, which will be conducted by York County’s Mosquito and Tick-Borne Disease Control Program (Business License BU8376).
The product that will be used is Clarke® AquaDUET®, which is a water-based product designed to effectively control and eliminate large populations of adult mosquitoes. The county performs these sprays at night to avoid contact with non-target insects such as bees and butterflies.
The product will be applied at a rate of 0.75 ounces per acre. The product is designed to come into contact with flying mosquitoes and therefore has no residual effect as it breaks down within 20 minutes after application.
