Description
Please be advised that on Monday, August 4, the Borough will be performing fog sealing on several roads and parking lots that were seal coated several weeks ago.
Fog sealing is a surface treatment applied over recently seal coated roads. It involves spraying a thin layer of diluted asphalt emulsion onto the surface. This process helps lock in loose stone chips, seal the surface, and provides a darker, more uniform appearance—similar to freshly paved asphalt. In addition to improving aesthetics, fog sealing can extend the life of the seal coat by helping it better withstand weather and traffic.
This year, the Borough is piloting this technique on a limited basis to evaluate its effectiveness. The added cost is approximately $0.63 per square yard, in addition to the $1.83 per square yard cost of seal coating—an increase of about 35%. If results show improved durability and appearance, the Borough may consider broader implementation in the future.
Affected Roads and Lots:
North Street, between Bird Drive and Eastern Avenue
Eastern Avenue, between Buffalo Road and North Street
Borough Hall Parking Lot
Rep. Merski Parking Lot
These areas will be closed for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours on Monday morning to allow the fog seal to dry and cure properly.
Please note: These locations were originally scheduled for fog sealing on Friday, August 1, but the contractor, Suit-Kote, had to delay by one business day due to Thursday’s rain, which impacted their earlier project timeline.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue working to improve Borough streets and infrastructure.
