Building a Stronger Crafton Together
Last week, the Tri-COG Land Bank (TCLB) presented to Crafton Borough Council about their comprehensive strategy to recover vacant, abandoned, and deteriorating properties. This state enabled program aligns perfectly with Crafton's Thrive comprehensive plan and the Borough's commitment to bringing ALL tools to bear in reducing and preventing blight in our community.
The Impact is Real: Blighted properties cost communities millions in direct costs (code enforcement, emergency services, demolition) and lost property values. But together, we're turning that around!
Results Matter: TCLB has 241 properties in their pipeline, with 95 already sold and 34 satisfied enforcement mortgages. From blighted eyesores to beautiful family homes - the transformation is happening!
The Landbank's Reno-Lite program is especially exciting - preserving naturally affordable housing by bringing properties up to safe, habitable standards so families can move in and make additional improvements over time.
When municipalities, counties, and school districts work together with organizations like TCLB, we can break the cycle of abandonment and build thriving neighborhoods. That's the Crafton way!
The Borough's Expanding Toolkit Includes (or will soon!):
-The Tricog Landbank - to restore properties and provide clear, insurable titles
-Conservatorship - putting valuable properties back on the market
-Updated Rental Inspection - to reduce the likelihood of blighted properties
-Enhanced code enforcement and building permits with online reporting and payment portal to improve the Borough's efficiency
