Description
The Berks County Conservation District has notified Douglass Township that a mosquito sample collected in our area has tested positive for West Nile Virus. While the risk of transmission remains LOW, the County's mosquito control team is increasing surveillance efforts in our community as a precaution.
Even small amounts of standing water can breed mosquitoes in just a few days. Reducing these breeding spots around your home is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your family.
How You Can Help:
- Eliminate standing water on your property
(Birdbaths, buckets, toys, tarps, gutters. Anything holding water for more than 4 days)
- Stay indoors during peak mosquito hours (dusk to dawn)
- Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toe shoes when outside
- Use insect repellent with at least 30% DEET
Together, we can help reduce mosquito populations and limit the spread of West Nile Virus. Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe.
