Description
We will begin our annual hydrant flushing program around Monday May 19th, 2025.
This is an annual requirement by DEP (Department of Environmental Protection).
This is done by opening 1 hydrant at a time throughout the water system and letting it flow at a high rate for several minutes to mix up and flush out the minerals that settle to the bottom of the pipe over the past year. Also, during this time, we record static and residual pressures and report them to the local fire companies, so they are familiar with the high- and low-pressure areas in case of a fire.
Unfortunately, while flushing the water system, many homes may experience discolored water and/or little to no water pressure during the time of flushing in your area. This may be sporadic throughout the day/ week.
AVOID USING DISCOLORED WATER FOR COOKING AND LAUNDRY!
Once we are done in your area, we suggest that you open a valve or faucet in the basement or first floor to get the air and any discolored water you may get out of your pipes.
Please call the Borough Office at 717-244-6626 with any questions or concerns.
