Recognizing the Magnitude of Yesterday's Unprecedented Storm
DLC crews are starting to make progress on restoring customers following yesterday’s extreme weather. As always, we are committed to restoring power for all of our customers as safely and quickly as possible. We understand how difficult and frustrating it is to be without power, especially for an extended period of time. This is an “all hands on deck” effort for DLC and we will continue to work around the clock until everyone is restored.
STORM IMPACT
• Total Outages: More than 240,000 DLC customers experienced an outage on Tuesday, which is about 40% of our total customer base.
• Customers restored: 43,000 customers as of this morning.
• Widespread damage: Our entire service territory has been impacted, including our transmission lines, which is a key source of power for our overall network.
RESTORATION PROCESS
• Given the severity of the destruction, some customers may be out of service for approximately 5-7 days, but many will be restored sooner. We’re still obtaining outage and damage reports.
• Nearly 400 mutual assistance personnel from contractors and neighboring utilities will arrive in Pittsburgh today to assist.
• When the extent of weather damage is widespread throughout the area, company personnel must prioritize:
1. Public safety hazards such as downed wires and fallen poles
2. Public health and safety facilities
3. Major circuits
4. Small neighborhoods and individual homes
SAFETY & RESOURCES
• There are still many hazards around the area, including downed wires, poles and trees, so we strongly encourage the public to exercise caution and never approach a downed power line.
