Description
It is National Volunteer Week.

April 20th - April 26th, 2025

National Volunteer Week is celebrated annually during the third week of April. This week long celebration is about placing a spotlight on inspiring figures whose invaluable seeds of kindness through volunteering are bettering our community.

This significant celebration which was established in 1974 provides the perfect opportunity to say thank you. It also challenges us to do better and look for ways to be active participants, joining hands to impact our local communities.

Did you know Hatboro Borough has many committees and volunteers who spend countless hours giving back and making Hatboro a great place to live, work and visit.

Today we are going to recognize some more volunteers.

Borough Council - Council is charged with the general governance of the Borough and holds all legislative, executive and administrative powers. Council is responsible for all policy, fiscal and lawmaking decisions.

In addition to the many activities council are involved in, the one main duty is by law, they must
meet at least once a month to conduct its business.

Committees of council include, administration, finance, public safety, public works, parks, environmental matters, zoning and grants.

Borough Council members are very active in all aspects of the Borough, and are not just limited to attending council meetings. You will often see them around town attending and participating in events, meeting with residents and business owners, assisting committees with projects, attending meetings of subcommittees, meeting with staff and being very involved in the community.

Mayor - The Mayor works directly with the Chief of Police and Police Officers of the Hatboro Police Department Some of his other duties include casting a tie or split breaking vote at a council meeting, performing marriage ceremonies, requesting aid and assistance from law enforcement, declaring states of emergencies and administering oaths.

The Mayor is very active in the Hatboro community like Council. He is often in attendance at events, active with the Chamber of Commerce, regularly attends Environmental Advisory Committee meetings, advocates for good sound environmental policies and procedures as well as being involved in ensuring Hatboro is a fun, active, and safe Many of the pictures you see posted are from the Mayor who is often behind the camera.

Treasurer - Tom Smith is the appointed Treasurer for Hatboro Tom is responsible for reporting bank balances to Council, signing checks and reviewing expenditures as per the Borough Code. Tom volunteers his time on other committees including Zoning Rewrite Committee, former Planning Commission member, Little League Board member and current member of Friends of Cressbrook. Tom is very active in the community.

Borough Staff- while staff is paid to work to ensure the day to day operation of the Borough, many of our staff volunteer their time and give back countless hours as well. If you attend events in Hatboro many times you will see staff hard at work lending a hand to make sure everyone has a fun and enjoyable time. A few of our enployees are also volunteer firefighters coming when a resident or property owner calls not just during work hours but after hours. Our employees are the best.

Pictured below are a few volunters spending time with the residents at Victorian Village The topic this visit was calling 911, what to do in an emergency and a chance to ask questions about anything Hatboro.

Thank you Fire Chief Hauser, Fire Marshal Valesky, Council President Bollendorf, Councilman Myers, Councilwoman Jacobus and Borough Manager Hegele for stopping by.

THANK YOU to all our volunteers You all make Hatboro a great place to live, work and visit
