Description
Friends, Neighbors and Residents of Greenfield Township,
Greenfield Township needs your help!

As you probably know, Greenfield Township has a marijuana dispensary that dispenses medical
and adult use recreational marijuana. When Issue 2 was passed by the voters in 2023, the
statute designated a tax of 3.6% of the sales of recreational marijuana to go to the host
community. It has been estimated that this tax would generate between $400,000 and
$500,000 in revenue for Greenfield Township. The current Ohio General Assembly is in the
process of creating legislation that would eliminate the host community from receiving the tax.
Here is an excerpt from the March 7, 2025 Ohio Township Association News Letter:

HB 96: State Operating Budget - In the as introduced version of the bill, HB 96 makes significant
changes to the adult-use marijuana law. Current law gives the community that has allowed a
dispensary 36% of the 10% excise tax (which is 3.6% for the Township). Instead, HB
96 eliminates the community host fund and changes the revenue distribution giving a majority
of the tax to fund grants to construct, renovate, or improvement county jails and to fund peace
officer training and peace officer training facilities.

This anticipated host community tax is an immense benefit to the operation of the Greenfield
Township Fire Department, Road Department and Cemetery and will certainly push back or
possibly eliminate the need for tax levies in the near future. You can help by contacting our
