Work includes replacing the Route 74 bridge, preserving Route 4014 bridge, both spanning Conewago Creek in Dover and Warrington townships

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that two-bridge project consisting of replacing the Carlisle Road (Route 74) bridge and preserving the Harmony Grove Road (Route 4014) bridge spanning Conewago Creek in Dover and Warrington townships, is scheduled to begin next week. The Route 74 bridge is located between Alpine Road and Conewago Road. The Harmony Grove Road bridge is located between Detters Mill Road and Conewago Road.

Weather permitting, work will begin Monday, March 10, at the Route 74 (Carlisle Road) bridge. The contractor will begin with causeway and pier construction. This work will have minimal impacts on traffic. This bridge is expected to be closed this winter or early next spring for replacement. There will be a detour of up to 240 days when that occurs.

The Harmony Grove Road (Route 4014) bridge, which will be part of the detour route for the Route 74 bridge closure, will be closed this July for preservation work. There will be a detour of up to 117 days. When the preservation work is complete and the bridge is open, the detour for the Route 74 bridge will commence.

Press releases will be issued prior to the implementation of the detours.

This project consists of replacing the existing 4-span steel I-beam bridge on Route 74 with a 3-span concrete bulb-tee beam bridge and preserving the existing 4-span prestressed concrete spread box beam bridge on Harmony Grove Road.

Work also includes bridge approach reconstruction, scarification and hydro-demolition of bridge deck, concrete repairs, temporary access road and creek crossing construction, bridge demolition, new guide rail, drainage and other miscellaneous construction.

Kinsley Construction, LLC, of York, PA is the contractor on this $7,089,975 project. Work is expected to be completed by November 16, 2026.
