Due to unforeseen mechanical issues, Garbage & Recycling will be completely cancelled this week. Garbage service is expected to resume on the regular schedule next week, Monday, March 3rd and Tuesday, March 4th. Recycling will be picked up Borough-wide on Thursday, March 6th.
We regret to inform you that we received this update from the City of Erie Garage, where the truck is being serviced. The garbage truck had more extensive issues than anticipated. The two main hydraulic cylinders on the trash compactor were found to be leaking. We thought the cylinders could be refurbished and reused, but after disassembling the truck, it was determined that refurbishment was not an option. As a result, two entirely new cylinders had to be ordered.
Between shipping and labor, the City Garage anticipates having the truck repaired and ready for next week’s collection.
