Description
It seems like the cold is still clinging on! In Crafton, the ordinance is clear, snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours of when the snow/icy rain stops. The ordinances also hold residents responsible for the repair of their sidewalks. So what is the best kind of snow/ice melt to protect your concrete and grassy edges?
1. Calcium Chloride-less likely to cause any damage to your concrete surface and can melt ice all way to -25°F.
2. Magnesium Chloride-also great at melting ice to 5°F but requires more of it to be as effective as calcium chloride (but safer for pets).
3. Potassium Chloride-also works but only down to 12°F.
Some other eco-friendly/pet-friendly ice-melt alternatives that are easy on concrete.
1. Alfalfa meal.
2. Coffee Grounds.
3. Heated outdoor mats.
4. Pet Friendly Specific Ice Melt (available in various brands).
