High Wind Warning issued February 17 at 3:41AM EST until February 17 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Albany NY
* WHAT...For the High Wind Warning, west winds 25 to 35 mph with
gusts up to 65 mph. For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind
chills as low as 25 below expected.
* WHERE...In New York, Northern Warren, Western Greene, Western
Ulster, and Hamilton Counties. In Vermont, Bennington and Western
Windham Counties.
* WHEN...For the High Wind Warning, until 7 PM EST this evening. For
the Cold Weather Advisory, from 11 PM this evening to 11 AM EST
Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult,
especially for high profile vehicles. The dangerously cold wind
chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed
skin in as little as 30 minutes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong winds along with the weight of snow
and ice on trees will lead to an increased risk of downed trees
and power lines, resulting in power outages.
Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and
avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution
if you must drive.
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.
