Description
Flash Flood Warning issued January 31 at 2:49AM HST until January 31 at 3:30AM HST by NWS Honolulu HI
At 249 AM HST, radar indicated that rainfall has eased over Maui
with rates of one inch per hour confined to east Maui from Kaupo to
Hana. Conditions have improved over the west and central portions of
the island. As a result, these areas are no longer in the warning
area.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE...Emergency management.
IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Kipahulu, Kaupo, Nahiku, Keanae, Kula, Keokea, Makawao, Hana,
Huelo, Haiku-Pauwela, Haleakala National Park, Wailua, Kailua and
Hamoa.
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
