Description
Flash Flood Warning issued January 30 at 10:57PM HST until January 31 at 12:30AM HST by NWS Honolulu HI
At 1057 PM HST, heavy rainfall continues over Maui with rates of 1
to 3 inches per hour over the southwest side of the island. The Maui
Emergency Management Agency reported that the Piilani Highway has
been closed west of Kaupo. All of South Kihei Road has been closed,
and flooding has been reported in Haiku and Lahaina.
HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding.
SOURCE...Emergency management.
IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in drainages,
streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying
areas. Multiple public road closures expected, as well
as landslides in steep terrain.
This warning includes the entire island of Maui.
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
