Description
Flash Flood Warning issued January 10 at 5:26AM HST until January 10 at 7:30AM HST by NWS Honolulu HI
At 526 AM HST, heavy showers and severe storms continue to move
ashore over Maui from the north and east, with peak rainfall rates
of 2 to 4 inches per hour. The heaviest showers and storms are
impacting the eastern half of the island. Water levels in streams
continue to sharply rise, especially in the Hanawi Stream and Oheo
Gulch. Runoff impacting vulnerable low lying areas and roads is
likely in these areas through daybreak.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Kahului, Kihei, Lahaina, Kula, Pukalani, Makawao, Keokea,
Haliimaile, Paia, Puunene, Haiku-Pauwela, Wailea, Pauwela,
Maalaea, Huelo, Ulupalakua, Makena, Waikapu, Wailuku and Waiehu.
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
The heavy rains may cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain areas.
