Description
Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued January 10 at 4:45AM HST until January 10 at 5:30AM HST by NWS Honolulu HI
At 444 AM HST, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from Kaanapali to near Haleakala National Park, moving
southwest at 10 mph.
HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and small hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to roofs
and outbuildings.
Locations impacted include...
Kahului, Honokohau, Haliimaile, Kipahulu, Wailuku, Makawao, Paia,
Keokea, Olowalu, Wailea, Waihee, and Kaanapali.
This is a DANGEROUS SITUATION. These storms are producing widespread
wind damage across Maui with numerous measured wind gusts of 55 to
nearly 70 mph. SEEK SHELTER NOW inside a sturdy structure and stay
away from windows.
Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading
killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to
be struck by lightning.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
