Description
Snow Squall Warning issued January 3 at 4:24PM EST until January 3 at 5:00PM EST by NWS Pittsburgh PA
At 424 PM EST, a hazardous snow squall was located near Ellwood
City, or 10 miles southeast of New Castle, moving southeast at 30
mph.
HAZARD...Intense bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds leading to
blowing snow and rapidly falling visibility. Wind gusts
up to 35 mph.
SOURCE...Doppler radar and webcams.
IMPACT...Travel will become difficult and potentially hazardous
within minutes.
Locations impacted include...
Cranberry, New Castle, Greensburg, Indiana, Butler, Latrobe,
Vandergrift, Homer City, Apollo, New Kensington, Lower Burrell,
Harrison Township, Ellwood City, Homeacre-Lyndora, Arnold,
Shanor-Northvue, Tarentum, Natrona Heights, Meridian and
Zelienople.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 79 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 81 and 105.
Interstate 376 between mile markers 10 and 25.
Pennsylvania Turnpike between mile markers 3 and 7...and
between mile markers 17 and 18.
Slow Down! Rapid changes in visibility and road conditions are
expected with this dangerous snow squall. Be alert for sudden
whiteout conditions.
Consider avoiding or delaying travel until the snow squall passes
your location. If you must travel, use extra caution and allow extra
time. Rapid changes in visibility and slick road conditions may lead
to accidents.
