Winter Storm Watch issued January 2 at 2:26PM CST until January 6 at 12:00PM CST by NWS Lincoln IL
A winter storm is targeting portions of the lower Midwest between
Saturday night and Monday evening, bringing travel impacts directly
to portions of central and southeast Illinois.
* WHAT...Heavy snow of at least 6 inches is likely (greater than 60%
chance). Additionally, a narrow band of accumulating flat ice of
at least one tenth of an of an inch is possible (greater than 40%
chance). Blustery north winds will occasionally gust between
20-30 mph, potentially leading to blowing and drifting snow across
East-West highways, as well as sporadic power outages.
* WHERE...Heavy snow across portions of central, east central,
southeast, and west central Illinois. Ice accumulations confined
to areas along and south of Interstate 70.
* WHEN...From late Saturday night through Monday morning.
* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult
to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday
morning commute.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter
storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains,
booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing.
Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help
you survive in case you become stranded.
