Summary:
Northern York County Regional Police Department (NYCRPD) patrol units responded to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, the fire was confirmed, and firefighting operations were initiated by responding fire personnel.
Findings During Firefighting Operations:
During efforts to extinguish the fire, a hydroponic marijuana-growing system was discovered in the basement. After the fire was controlled, the property was secured, and NYCRPD investigators obtained and executed a search warrant.
Recovered Items:
Numerous marijuana plants
A hydroponic growing system
A handgun
Additional illegal drugs and paraphernalia
Cause of Fire:
The NYCRPD Fire Investigator determined the fire to be electrical in nature, originating in the area of the hydroponic growing system.
Impact:
Displacement: Six residents and three pets were displaced. The Red Cross is providing assistance.
Arrest: A 27-year-old male resident was taken into custody and is being processed at the York County Booking Center.
Charges:
The male will be charged with:
Endangering Welfare of Children (Felony – 1 Count)
Manufacturing a Controlled Substance (Felony – 1 Count)
Recklessly Endangering Another Person (Misdemeanor – 6 Counts)
