Snow Pack Removal

Description
We've had several not so nice "suggestions" to Township employees regarding roads needing plowed. During the recent storms some areas of the Township received 45"+ of snow resulting in some roads having 4-6" of snow pack. Plowing snow is "easy" compared to removing slush from melting snow pack. The melting of snow pack takes time, sunshine &/or rain. We do not have the budget to salt all 75 miles of Township roads; salt degrades tar & chip roads causing increased maintenance costs. We do salt & sand (1 scoop salt: 3 scoops sand) on high traffic roads. Snow pack often melts fastest in the wheel ruts creating a mushy/mealy mess, the harder pack between the wheel tracks and between lanes melts slower. Snow plows can only remove loose material, and are NOT capable of scraping the thick snow pack off the pavement. We have 1 4-man crew working tons of overtime, they worked from 11:30 am till 6:30 pm yesterday (12-8-24), then were back out on the roads at 3:00 this morning for another extended round of removal. Again, plows can only remove the loose material on top and we must wait between rounds for the freshly exposed snow pack to melt, which the crew removes, repeating the process until the snow pack finally releases. As of 9:45 this morning, most of the snow pack has melted and been plowed off.
Thank you for your patience, if you like, feel free to reach out to me.
