Description
Winter Storm Watch issued December 3 at 7:05AM EST until December 6 at 4:00AM EST by NWS Cleveland OH

* WHAT...For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, heavy lake effect snow.
Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 7 inches with locally
higher amounts possible in the northeastern portion of the county.
For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy lake effect snow possible. Total
snow accumulations between in excess of 12 inches possible with
higher amounts possible where snow bands persist. Winds could gust
as high as 45 mph.

* WHERE...Northern Erie and Southern Erie Counties.

* WHEN...For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, until 7 PM EST this
evening. For the Winter Storm Watch, from Wednesday afternoon
through late Thursday night.

* IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and
blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous
conditions could impact the Tuesday morning, Wednesday evening,
and Thursday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring
down tree branches. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses,
will likely become slick and hazardous.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An Arctic front will cross the region on
Wednesday evening and could bring a band of heavier snow with
quickly deteriorating conditions, including a quick inch or two of
snow, visibility of 1/4 mile or less, and wind gusts to 45 mph.
Travel could quickly become difficult across the region before
lake effect snow bands enter for the rest of the event.

Strong wind gusts as high as 45 mph may result in blowing snow and
local reductions in visibility. The large snowpack across the region
from the ongoing lake effect event may drift and cause hazardous
travel conditions.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania
Turnpike Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all travel
restrictions and delay unnecessary travel. Visit www.511pa.com for
the latest travel, roadway, and traffic conditions.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter
storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains,
booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing.
Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help
you survive in case you become stranded.

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can
also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,
visibility, and road conditions.
