Description
Lake Effect Snow Warning issued December 1 at 3:30AM EST until December 3 at 7:00AM EST by NWS Cleveland OH

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations
between 12 and 22 inches across northern Erie County with 10 to 20
inches possible across southern Erie County. Locally higher
amounts are possible, especially across northern Erie County.

* WHERE...Northern Erie and Southern Erie Counties.

* WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4
mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are
expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially
life-threatening. Travel could be very difficult to impossible,
especially along the I-90 corridor and portions of I-86 and I-79
where 30 to 45 inches of snowfall has already occurred. The
hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening
commutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heavy band of lake effect snow is slowly
shifting back south where it will again impact Erie County through
Tuesday. Periods of snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are
possible. Highest accumulations are expected to be along and north
of I-90. This additional snow would bring the storm total amounts
to 4 to 6 feet.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania
Turnpike Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all travel
restrictions and delay unnecessary travel. Visit www.511pa.com for
the latest travel, roadway, and traffic conditions.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can
also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,
visibility, and road conditions.
