Description
Lake Effect Snow Warning issued November 30 at 1:39PM EST until December 3 at 7:00AM EST by NWS Cleveland OH

* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2
to 6 inches today. An additional 10 to 20 inches is possible
Sunday through Tuesday morning. This would bring the storm total
snowfall for this event to 4 to 6 feet, with highest values across
the northern portion of the county.

* WHERE...Northern Erie and Southern Erie Counties.

* WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4
mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are
expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially
life-threatening. Travel is impossible and should be postponed.
The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and
evening commutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heavy lake effect snow is expected to
continue into Tuesday with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per
hour. The highest accumulations are expected along the I-90
corridor and north with totals quickly decreasing to the south.
There is a potential for a brief lull in snowfall this evening
into the overnight hours as the heaviest band pushes north over
Lake Erie before returning on Sunday. The warning will continue
through this lull to account for the ongoing significant impacts
and the likelihood of continued blowing snow. People should avoid
travel unless absolutely necessary.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania
Turnpike Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all travel
restrictions and delay unnecessary travel. Visit www.511pa.com for
the latest travel, roadway, and traffic conditions.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can
also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,
visibility, and road conditions.
