Description
The York County Commissioners announced today a countywide burn ban.

The decision comes as a response to record low stream levels, low water levels, and dry conditions, according to the commissioners. The ban, a temporary 30-day restriction on all open fires, will supersede any municipal ordinance to the contrary.

Open burning consists of burning any combustible materials including garbage, leaves, grass, twigs, paper, and more, in an outside fire pit or on the ground. Additionally, all fireworks are banned unless approved through written authorization by the municipality where the fireworks will be used.

Fires in designated state and federal campgrounds are allowed as long as a protective ring surrounds the fire.
