The City of Lake Helen will start debris cleanup from Hurricane Milton between Monday, Oct. 28th and Tuesday, Oct. 29th. This wave of removal will include city roads only.

Residents are encouraged to place storm debris in the public right of way, which is the area between the street and the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole, or easement. Please avoid placing debris directly on the road, as this can obstruct traffic, hinder cleanup efforts, and block emergency vehicles. Keep debris clear of drainage ditches, inlets, mailboxes, and power lines whenever possible. Remember not to cover storm drains or block fire hydrants, and exercise caution around debris piles.

Debris should be sorted into distinct piles:
• Vegetative (leaves, branches, and cut trees)
• Construction and demolition materials (carpet, furniture, fences, drywall)

Do not place vegetative debris in plastic yard waste bags, as combined waste piles and plastic bags will not be collected.

Due to limited resources, ongoing national storm events, and the volume of debris, the city anticipates that the Debris Removal Program will be completed by the end of the year. Normal collection rules will apply for residents with a small amount of yard debris.

Please note that mixed debris piles, electronics, and household hazardous waste will not be collected; residents can dispose of these items free of charge at the Tomoka Landfill or West Volusia Transfer Station.
