Description
York Area Metropolitan Planning Organization or YAMPO is the decision-making body for all transportation-related projects in York County that use federal funding.

Every four years, YAMPO updates the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The MTP is a 20+ year plan for an integrated multi-modal transportation network in a region (York County) and is used as YAMPO’s guiding document for network planning and investment.

The MTP must include any project to be funded with federal or state funding – if not explicitly, then through the project selection process outlined in the plan. Additionally, municipalities and other organizations that apply for grants typically must demonstrate that their project is consistent with the regional MTP.

YAMPO is currently in process of updating the MTP, Go York 2050. In June, a Futures Forum was held to discuss forces and factors that may be beyond the control of YAMPO and the York County Planning Commission’s Transportation Division. It also factored in best, worst, and current states of possible scenarios to better understand the future of York County’s transportation system.

The best, worst, and current state scenarios are compiled in the Futures Forum Workshop Summary, available at www.goyork2050.com.

The next step in this process is to conduct focus groups throughout the 7 planning regions in York County.

Currently five of the seven regions have scheduled focus groups to host these discussions and YAMPO is seeking 9-12 participants for each focus group. Participants should live or go to work/school/retired in York County and should participate in their region as identified on the included map. The focus group sessions begin on September 23 and continue into October/November.

The regions that are yet to be confirmed will be held in October or November. Additional information will be released when those dates are finalized.

The focus groups will review the current status of transportation in the indicators report, discuss the scenarios from the Go York 2050 Futures Forum, and will consider future transportation planning in York County. This is an opportunity to provide feedback or alternatives to the proposed scenarios.

If you are unable to participate in the focus groups, there will be additional opportunities for public input in 2025. Check GoYork2050.com for updates and additional information.
