Special Weather Statement issued August 3 at 3:40PM EDT by NWS State College PA
At 339 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Cornwall, moving northeast at 30 mph. Other storms were developing
to the southwest of this storm.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Lancaster, York, Lebanon, Ephrata, Elizabethtown, Columbia, Lititz,
Millersville, Willow Street, Mount Joy, Red Lion, New Holland, Spry,
Manheim, Annville, East Petersburg, Cornwall, Dallastown, Akron, and
Myerstown.
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Very heavy rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for
south central Pennsylvania.
