Description
You may have noticed that all the playground equipment has been removed from Morrison Park, located in the College Heights neighborhood at the corner of 30th St and Highland Ave. This equipment was removed because it was many decades old, rusted, had exposed concrete footings, and an overall unsafe design.

Upon a strong recommendation from our insurance agent, the equipment had to be removed due to the significant liability for the Borough associated with having knowingly dangerous equipment installed at the park. The last thing the Borough wants is residents, especially children, getting injured needlessly.

Thanks to the Public Works Crew for their hard work getting the equipment removed.

A grant has been submitted to the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to cover the purchase and installation of new equipment for the park. This new equipment would incorporate all the heightened safety features developed over the past decades, ensuring the Borough’s children can play safely. We expect to hear back about the grant sometime this fall. Additional grants are also being pursued.

The grand plan for Morrison Park includes the addition of two dedicated handicap parking spots, swings, a jungle gym, a small pavilion with picnic tables, and an accessible path connecting it all.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We understand that this park holds a special place in the hearts of many people and serves an area of the Borough that otherwise does not have easy access to recreational facilities. The Borough is committed to our parks, and we will work diligently to revamp Morrison Park to safely serve the community.

If you care about the Borough’s park facilities, you are encouraged to get involved. We can certainly use help planning our recreational improvement projects.
