The Eastern York County Emergency Management Agency is starting the process of updating our Emergency Operations Plan. The current plan was originally developed in 2014 when the six Municipalities entered into a joint agreement to develop a regional agency. The Emergency Operations Plan is required to be reviewed and voted upon by the Municipal Boards biennially. Our current Emergency Operations Plan was adopted by the Municipalities January 2024.
The reason behind the update process is that every cycle the Emergency Operations Plan was reviewed updates were made to comply with new mandates or training requirements. Since the original writing of the plan, new practices and principles have been developed in Emergency Management that has not been incorporated in the totality of the plan. We are going to go through the planning steps as if we do not have an existing plan. This thought process will allow the planning team to develop an Emergency Operations Plan. Although we are going to start with a clean slate, many sections of the old plan can be used as reference or wholly incorporated into the plan because it was a well-developed plan.
Working with the first responder community prior to the 2024 revision a list of hazards were developed and priority given to each hazard. We are asking the community to also rate the hazards so we have a whole community picture of how people perceive hazards within our service area.
