Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued June 17 at 5:10PM EDT until June 17 at 5:30PM EDT by NWS Pittsburgh PA
At 509 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from 9 miles west of Kittanning to near Gibsonia to 6 miles
east of Weirton, moving east at 35 mph.
HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.
SOURCE...Law enforcement and the public reported widespread wind
damage across the warned area.
IMPACT...Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible. Trees snapped
and uprooted. Power outages can be expected.
Locations impacted include...
Pittsburgh, Penn Hills, Mount Lebanon, Bethel Park, Ross Township,
McCandless Township, Cranberry, Moon Township, Weirton, Butler,
Franklin Park, Aliquippa, Vandergrift, Kittanning, Shaler Township,
Plum, North Side Pittsburgh, Baldwin, Upper St. Clair, and Hampton
Township.
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.
This is a DANGEROUS SITUATION. These storms are producing widespread
wind damage across the warned area. SEEK SHELTER NOW inside a sturdy
structure and stay away from windows.
Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading
killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to
be struck by lightning.
