Special Weather Statement issued May 18 at 2:53PM EDT by NWS Jacksonville FL

At 253 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Gainesville Airport, or 8 miles northeast of Gainesville, moving east
at 40 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include...
Gainesville, Palatka, Green Cove Springs, Interlachen, Keystone
Heights, Melrose, East Palatka, Citra, Hawthorne, and University Of
Florida.

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
