Special Weather Statement issued May 14 at 7:51AM EDT by NWS Jacksonville FL
At 751 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Alachua, or 7 miles northwest of Gainesville, moving east at 35 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Gainesville, Starke, Keystone Heights, Alachua, High Springs,
Hawthorne, Archer, University Of Florida, Beasley, and New River.
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 100 PM EDT for northern and
northeastern Florida.
